Pomfret Historical Society

The purpose of the Society is to acquire, preserve, and promote the history of the Town of Pomfret, Connecticut.

New members are very welcome and embraced at the Pomfret Historical Society (PHS). Your participation is rewarded in the satisfaction of educating the residents of Connecticut and other more global communities about Pomfrets unique history.  

Please come and share your Pomfret past memories or learn fascinating facts about bygone eras. The Historical Society is the caretaker to the Old Pomfret Town House (1841) and the Brayton Grist Mill (1890). Both of these buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Historical Society Members Responsibilities’ may include:

  • Assisting in cataloging artifacts and setting up the display
  • Curatorial & Docent Services at the Brayton Grist Mill (Training Provided) Planning
  • Coordinating and implementing historical related events or programs
  • Creating and editing informational articles, brochures, and signage for displays
  • Development of a new Pomfret Historical Society website
  • Digitization of historical documents and photographs
  • Collection/Identification/Digitization of Pomfret those interned in Ancient Pomfret cemeteries.

Pomfret Historical Society

The goal of PHS is to educate and involve the public regarding the history of Pomfret, Connecticut. Past and present members of the Pomfret community are located throughout North America and the world. PHS considers that all those that have called Northeastern Connecticut their home, including present or former residents, visitors and all others that appreciate the tranquil beauty of Pomfret, Connecticut will always be part of our global family.
